Prostate Cancer Screening Focus of 1st IBN 'Biomarkers in Medicine' Symposium

The 1st IBN 'Biomarkers in Medicine' Symposium held at Shangri-La Hotel on March 23, 2012 generated a lively discussion on prostate cancer screening among the urologists in attendance. The evening event featured three invited talks by urology and epidemiology experts, followed by an open forum and panel discussion on “PSA Screening – The Road Forward for Singapore and Asia”. Over 90 participants from the medical and research communities gathered to listen to Dr Tan Chuen Seng (National University of Singapore), Professor Christopher Cheng (Singapore General Hospital) and Professor Urs. E. Studer (University Hospital of Bern and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS). The Guest-of-Honor for the inaugural symposium was Dr Kong Hwai Loong (Medical Oncologist at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and Novena Medical Center, and former A*STAR Biomedical Research Council Executive Director).

The IBN 'Biomarkers in Medicine' Symposium is a series of medical symposia organized by the Institute that seeks to foster active discussion on topics of major public health and research interest in order to guide basic, translational and clinical research and promote greater collaboration among researchers and clinicians. Details on the next symposium will be made available on the IBN website.
